JustPeachy !!! asked:
Which digital camera should I buy?
Last week I bought a Canon PowerShot SX100 IS digital camera on sale for $ 249.99 at Office Depot on the spur of the moment. I still have the receipt and could return it. Was this a good purchase? I have never had a digital camera before.
I really like subcompact (small) cameras) better than this compact camera.
I do know that I want a point and shoot camera, I just want good pics, I am not a professional photographer. This camera is not rechargable but runs on batteries, which is a reason I may want to return it. Should I return it and look for a rechargable? and I like the idea of a smaller subcompact camera because easy to fit into pocket.

Return it and get the one you most wanted (rechargeable and compact camera).
Good luck!

Go for the Sony cyber shot. It runs on a lithium rechargeable battery, is small enough to fit in your pocket. Takes multiple pictures very quickly, and is a very simple point and shoot camera. You can get a decent one for about 200.00, and you will love it.

Yes, keep it. Just go out and shoot. You don’t need to be a pro to shoot good pics…. just shoot, shoot, shoot. And post your images on flickr.com or get an Apple MacBook and use the phenominal iPhoto program.. simply amazing to use… hope this helps……just go out and shoot… and only expect to keep about 5% of your shots… trash the rest… you will be amazed at what you are able to do if you stick to this rule…. jp

Look at the links below. The camera should be fine. Just upgrade to rechargeable batteries.

The SX series is new from Canon. The SX100 is a great little camera with a lot of features.
Yes, a rechargeable battery is a good feature, but even better is the ability to use industry-standard rechargeables. Get yourself two sets of quality NiMH rechargeable batteries and a 15 minute charger; usually you can buy the two together. Buy a name brand (Energizer, Duracell) and not a store brand. Expect to spend about $30 to $40.
Now you’ll have two complete sets of batteries, can recharge more quickly than even the best camera, and will never miss a photo because of dead batteries. When your batteries wear out (and they all will) replacing them will be easy, and inexpensive.
Keep the camera. Enjoy it!

You’ve got to decide what it is you want to do. The SX100 has a 10x zoom lens; a compact camera will not have this feature. How important is the extra zoom to you?
The SX100 uses 2 AA batteries; you can buy rechargeable AA’s and a decent charger for about $30. A subcompact camera will use a specialized lithium-ion cell and a dedicated charger. If your batteries go dead, the SX100 can use alkalines or disposable lithiums (available in any grocery/drug store) while the subcompact camera requires you to recharge the specialized battery.
If you can live without the extra zoom and don’t care about the ability to use both rechargeable and disposable AAs, then consider the Canon SD850 IS as an alternative for about the same price as your SX100.
For me…I’d probably want the extra zoom, but that’s just me. Maybe the pocket thing is more important to you.
