The bag isn’t muddy or dusty, so I’m not sure what the stain is. Is it possibly something in the leather (oil) is causing the stain, and please tell me what I should do about it? Scotch Guard’s leather stuff or some other proctectant? Just try to clean it myself? Professional cleaning?
Please help! Thanks so much!

You have 2 problems here.
1. You have to clean your pants - take to drycleaner and tell them about your leather bag.
2. You have to seal the leather on your bag - Get a sealant from your nearest shoe store, spray on let dry and spray on again, or follow the directions.

Some leather bags are stained to achieve a color and “look”.
Yes, very likely that bag is staining your clothing.
I’d recommend professional dry-cleaning.
