I have an Empi Select Unit and have been using it for almost 2 months now. As far as the preprogrammed settings, that is all that I use. I use the unit for a chronic wrist injury to help manage my pain. I just select the wrist setting and the increase the intensity level until its at a comfortable level and then let it work. As far as how much I use it, well it depends on my pain level at the time. I have had days where I have worn it for most of the day with only taking a few limited breaks with it off but there are other days where I wear it for an hour or so and then I'm good to go for the afternoon. For your final question about skin reactions, I have sensitive skin with alot of allergies to lotions and powders. I haven't had any issues with skin reactions so far, just make sure that you move the positioning of the pads, don't always put them in the same spot. Good luck

My tens unit doesn't have preprogrammed settings...its pretty old, maybe thats why....but i do have issues with the adhesive allergy. over the years i have found some better than others, but they eventually become rashy, too....so, i search the web for tens pads and just switch whenever i need to. i was told to use the unit at twenty minute intervals, that it could be bad if you did it for longer. but i have used it for hours and hours at a time with no problem. but that doesn't mean you wont. so just be careful. i don't get a huge amount of relief from my tens, but it helps a little, which is better than nothing...and it really does make plane rides a little more bearable. good luck.
