The police select a towing service that is 10 miles away.
The police fail to use a towing service that is only 3 miles away.
Did the police make a mistake by not using the company that was nearby? Are you required to pay the “excessive” charge that results from having towed the car so far?

You are responsible.
It is not up to the police to “shop around” for a towing company for you. The towing company has a lein against the vehicle for towing charges, and if you want to get it back, you will pay those charges.
If you are a member of an automobile club, a portion of your towing charges may be covered. Also, some people have towing coverage on their automobile insurance policies.
If the accident was caused by somebody else, that person would be responsible to reimburse you for towing charges.

No, the insurance company should handle these charges.

Was the crash your fault..If so, you will be responsible for the towing, probably through your insurance..If it was someone else, their insurance should cover ALL of your expenses

The police normally have a towing service on contract that they use for all towing.
You will be responsible, but may get some of it back if the other party is at fault through your insusrance.

You are responsible, but if you were not at fault the insurance agency should take care of everything that you paid for, and future expenses.

You’re responsible. The police call whoever has the city towing contract.
